Saona with Mano Juan Tour

Welcome to our Saona with Mano Juan tour! In this premium experience you will be able to enjoy more places than in our classic Saona Island tour.

In the southeastern tip of the Dominican Republic we find one of those paradises on earth that you can only visit once in a lifetime: Saona Island. As part of the National Park of the East, it is an area with an incomparable nature, where you can enjoy mangrove landscapes, coral reef and beaches like La Palmilla, with incredible yellow sand and surrounded by palm trees of the aracaceae species.

Created especially for tourists, this tour will allow you to spend more time on the island enjoying a more complete adventure. The points we will visit on this excursion will be the Mano Juan fishing village, Canto de la Playa and its coral reefs. In addition, you will enjoy a private lunch in front of the sea, prepared exclusively for you and your family, friends or partner.

Then, at Canto de la Playa, you will enjoy one of the most beautiful beaches in the Dominican Republic. Catamarans are not allowed here, so we assure you that it will be a very authentic experience away from the tourist crowds. You can also spend time at the exotic Los Flamencos beach, an incredible place to dive in its underwater waters.

Snorkeling is undoubtedly another of the highlights of the visit to Saona Island, as you will enjoy crystal clear and calm waters in which fish and diverse marine life is very abundant.

Why can't you miss this tour?

This tour is essential if you want to know the way of life of a small Caribbean island.

Beyond the landscapes that Saona Island offers, in Mano Juan you can see a colony of fishermen who dedicate their lives to the sea. They arrived there in the 1940s, when Leónidas Trujillo considered that the island should be inhabited, to prevent it from being controlled by external entities.

History and curiosities of Saona Island

Saona Island is not only a beautiful natural place, but it also has a very interesting history. For the Tainos, the indigenous inhabitants of the island, it was called Adamanay. It was later, with the arrival of Christopher Columbus, when the island was called Bella Savonesa in honor of Michele da Cuneo, a native of the city of Savona, Italy.

Here you can also find the famous Cotubanamá cave, where the Taino cacique of the same name was executed. Today it is another of the island's tourist attractions.

Saona is a movie island, and in the literal sense of the word. Some scenes of the film Pirates of the Caribbean were shot here. But if a movie has always marked Saona Island, that was Blue Lagoon, El Lago Azul in Spanish. Thanks to the fact that it was filmed in these landscapes, thousands of people discovered Isla Saona through the big screen.

Why is this excursion more demanded by clients than Saona Clásica?

Saona island with Mano Juan excursion has a big difference between the classic tour that you will see a greater number of spots on the island. Mano Juan and Canto de la Playa, for example, are not included in the classic tour.

In addition, you will enjoy a much more personalized attention, since the groups are small, with a private lunch and professional guides who will make sure that everything goes smoothly during the tour.

Does this activity include eating lobster at the island buffet?

No. Eating lobster at the buffet is an extra service that you can book separately when you purchase the excursion.

The lobsters of our free buffet are fished every day on the beaches of Bayahibe, in order to guarantee the freshness of the product. This area of the Caribbean enjoys a large amount of crustaceans and mollusks that feed on plankton and sargassum, being its ideal environment. So you cannot leave Saona Island without tasting Dominican lobster.

What additional things will we see on this tour compared to the classic tour?

It is a very frequent question that our clients ask us "How does the Saona tour with Mano Juan differ from the classic one?"

Luckily, at JackCana Tours, we have an answer for everything.

Chavón River

It is a river about 65 kilometers long that flows from the mountains of the Cordillera Oriental to its mouth in the Caribbean Sea, near La Romana. The river is known for its beautiful landscape, which includes limestone cliffs and dense vegetation.

The Chavón River is also known for the historic village of Altos de Chavón, which sits on a hill overlooking the river. This place is a replica of a 16th-century Mediterranean village, built in the 1970s by Italian businessman Charles Bluhdorn and Dominican architect José Antonio Caro. The village features a church, a plaza, an amphitheater, shops, restaurants, and an archaeological museum.

The construction of this village was carried out using Dominican materials, including limestone from the region, and the village was designed to serve as a cultural and tourist center for the region. Its amphitheater has hosted many international artists, such as Frank Sinatra, Carlos Santana, Sting, and Andrea Bocelli, as well as fashion and film events.

The Chavón River has been an important resource for the region for centuries. The Taíno indigenous people, the island's original inhabitants, used the river to transport goods and for fishing. During the Spanish colonial era, the river was used to transport gold and other products to ports on the coast. In the 1970s, the river became an important tourist destination.

El Canto de la Playa

El Canto de la Playa is a coastal area of great beauty. Its transparent waters and fine yellow sand surrounded by palm trees can only be visited by speedboat, so it is an uncrowded beach. It is, without any doubt, the strong point of this tour. We are sure that the price difference between the tour and the classic tour is worth it to visit this place.

Cotubanamá natural pool

Just 200 meters from the shore of Palmilla beach, there is a marine paradise that every tourist visiting Saona Island should know. This is the natural pool of Cotubanamá, a place where you can stand surrounded only by water.

Its crystalline waters will allow us to enjoy the marine fauna and flora of the Caribbean Sea in all its splendor.

Opinions from travelers who have booked with us

"My family and I were on vacation in Punta Cana in February and we decided to book three excursions with jackcana tour. The one we liked the most was the one with Saona and Mano Juan. We were shocked to see how local families live in that small village far from the madding crowd noise of the cities.
