Lulu Waterfall: a wonderful setting near Samana

An idyllic landscape in the Dominican Republic

Traveling to the Dominican Republic is not only synonymous with seeing some of the best beaches in the Caribbean in Punta Cana or La Romana. In the interior of the country, nature keeps small jewels that are waiting to be visited.

Today we want to take you to the province of Samaná, in the north of the country, to visit the Lulú waterfall, a unique natural enclave where you can disconnect from everything in the middle of nowhere. Let's go there!

How is the excursion to Lulu Waterfall?

Cascada Lulu is a waterfall located in the middle of the Dominican jungle, making it an excursion to the heart of the province of Samana.

The waterfall is seven meters high, where the water descends to a crystalline pool where you can bathe to enjoy a unique experience in which it will seem that there is nothing else around you.

To get to the Lulu waterfall you have to walk along a path through the forest vegetation. In the warm and humid climate, this translates into different species of tropical flora such as ferns, coconut trees, mahogany and much more. You will also be able to admire the typical fauna of the country, finding small reptiles and amphibians that are only seen in these latitudes of the world.

In addition, the activity includes crossing a suspension bridge that you will find halfway, which is one of the most photographed places of the experience of visiting Lulu Waterfall.

There are also many ranches in the surrounding area, such as the Fuentes Family farm, where you can see first-hand how cocoa, coffee and tobacco are grown and produced.

The river that provides water to the Lulu waterfall is the San Juan. The waterfall is almost at the beginning of this water course, in an area that is endowed with a particular beauty.

Near the waterfall is Samaná Zipline, a set of more than 12 zip lines where we can enjoy adventure and adrenaline at its best.

Tips for visiting the Lulu Waterfall

The excursion to Lulu Waterfall is very attractive, however, there are a series of recommendations that you should follow before entering this beautiful place so that the experience is much more complete.

The first thing is not to forget your bathing suit and a towel, so you can bathe in the cold waters of the San Juan River and dry off when you get out. We assure you that when you see the crystalline waters of the Lulu Falls you will want to take a dip.

Although it is not a difficult route, it is also important that you wear appropriate footwear so that you are comfortable. If you also add some booties, all the better, since the bottom of the pond is made of stones.

Do not forget to bring sunscreen, because although the waterfall is surrounded by vegetation that gives enough shade, on sunny days we can receive a lot of sun rays. The same goes for sunglasses, which are a must on any route in the Dominican Republic.

Finally, don't forget to bring cash. With Dominican pesos you can buy products from local merchants such as cocoa, tobacco, coffee or rum, which are of the highest quality due to their artisanal process.

How to get to this fantastic place?

Accessing Lulu Waterfall is much easier than other hikes in the Dominican Republic thanks to its incredible location close to many tourist spots.

The nearest tourist town is El Valle, which is just a 7-minute drive from the start of the hiking trail.

The trail to Lulu waterfall is very easy to access, so it is considered a very good excursion to do with children. Going with family or friends to the area is also highly recommended.
