What to do in Punta Cana when it rains?

You wake up in Punta Cana, in the Dominican Republic, and dream of everything you are going to do that very day. You open the curtains of your room and realize it's raining.

The only option that crosses your mind is to stay at the bar of your all-inclusive resort drowning your sorrows, since the weather is not good, and even more so when the catamaran tour you had scheduled has been canceled.

But we want to show you that, even if the sun is not shining in the Caribbean, you can still do many activities. In this article, we are going to tell you what you can do when the weather is bad in Punta Cana.

Punta Cana is one of the most famous places in the world for its beaches and good weather. But there are times of the year when clouds and rains make an appearance. This doesn't mean you can't do anything on the island and we want to prove it to you with some excursions you can do in Punta Cana, even if the worst storm in the world is coming your way.

The first activity we propose is one of the most fun activities on the island when the weather is bad. This excursion can be done at any time of the year, but, the truth is that, skidding with a buggy through the mud that is formed with the rain is much more fun.

The activity consists of arriving at the meeting point after you have been picked up at the hotel and start driving the vehicle. The first destination is the sandy beach of Macau and, nearby, you will visit the coffee and cacao fields to taste these special beans.

From there the route continues to the Manantiales Indígenas, where you will explore one of the most impressive cenotes in Punta Cana. The buggy tour ends there, and this is also where the return trip to the hotel starts.

The universal downpour continues to fall and we have to take out our umbrellas in Punta Cana, but it is a good time to do another activity. Doing a safari around the island does not cost anything because the transport goes from one place to another without you having to do anything, so you just have to enjoy.

The tour lasts 8 hours in which you will enjoy lunch at a cocoa plantation, the company of a local family, meet a local school of the Dominican Republic, visit a sugar plantation, a tobacco plantation, take a horseback ride and finish with maximum relaxation on the beach of Macao.

Although our beach day has been truncated and we miss being able to throw ourselves on the towel to get tanned, swimming or diving in the waters of a natural swimming pool inside a cave is not bad at all.

One thing we do recommend avoiding is the hurricane season in the Dominican Republic, which runs from June through November. These weather phenomena not only bring rain, but strong winds can completely ruin the experience.

Just because you are traveling during this time does not mean there will be a hurricane, but the unpredictable weather in the Dominican Republic is more common during these months of the year.

The months of the dry season are: December, January, February and March. This time of the year is usually high season in the Dominican Republic, since the thermometer reaches more degrees and the rains are less frequent, with a very pleasant climate.
